Informaticists from four countries in ASEAN meet to discuss strategies for implementing standards for inter-operability in their respective nations
Drs. Boonchai Kijsanayotin (Thailand), Alvin Marcelo (Philippines), Luong Chi Thanh (Vietnam), and Chun Cheng (China) had an informal meeting at the ITU Conference UNCC Bangkok, Thailand last May 20. The four experts discussed the SDMX-HD standard and the WHO Indicator and Measurement Registry as a platform for international and sub-national inter-operability. They agreed to cascade the idea to their contacts back home and meet again after the HISForum in Manila for the Connectathon2 on June 17th, 2011.

More than a hundred participants from ten countries came together in Hoi An, Da Nang, Vietnam for five days of intensive sharing of best practice and lessons learned in the area of health informatics standards and interoperability. Organized by the World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office, USAID, Rockefeller Foundation, and the Vietnam Ministry of Health, several initiatives from WPRO countries were presented.
Dr. Alvin Marcelo, former director of the UP Manila National Telehealth Center, was a facilitator and participant in the event.
